THE SPARKLING ROSE FOR FALL: KIR YIANNI ‘SCARPEDES FRERES’

THE SPARKLING ROSE FOR FALL: KIR YIANNI ‘SCARPEDES FRERES’

September 20, 2022

I love sparkling wine, you probably love sparkling wine, your crazy aunt Delores definitely loves sparkling wine. So with all this love for sparkling wine going around, I thought I would key you into a new sparkling rose that is one of the best wines I have had this year, a sparkling rose by Kir Yianni winery named ‘Scarpedes Freres’.

So this wine has a lovely backstory, it is named after owner Stellio Boutari’s great-grandfather who lived in Paris in the early 20th century. Stellio was inspired by the brilliant sparkling roses from Champagne and set out to create a Greek version using the stunning Xinomavro grape. Suffice it to say, he succeeded beyond any expectations.

The wine is bone dry, British sense of humour dry. It has dynamic texture with notes of strawberry, red currant, orange peel, and tomato water. The wine has a light to medium body, making it outstanding both on its own and as a lovely companion with food. Basically this wine should be in your glass all fall long.

So, swing by Krasi, get a glass and feel like Greek in Paris. There are worse ways to feel.
