THE ALCOHOLIDAYS

THE ALCOHOLIDAYS

December 2, 2021

It is the holiday season, and this year unlike last, we can socialize, attend parties, go to wine tastings, (ahem…shameless plug for Symposium Wednesday at Krasi) and in general have the kind of holiday fun that was taken from us last year. Now I want everyone to have a blast. Really feel the joy of the season. That said, I also care about all of you and have some experience on how this time of year can get a bit crazy alcohol-wise for folks.

I like to refer to this time of year as the “Alcoholidays”. I can’t take credit for that one, a good friend Don Smith coined it. Don knows about good times, people call him “The Don”. ‘Nuff said. This time of year, most people drink a lot more than usual and I suspect this year that the amount we drink will be even higher. For example, I may or may not be sipping on a Greek version of egg nog as I write this. The point being, the wine, beer, and booze will be flowing, and it is important to keep an eye on your consumption and take care of yourself. It can catch up on you fast. As a sommelier I can speak from experience that things can get out of hand with a blink of an eye.

Look, have fun. Tear it up a little, it has been a brutal two years and we could all use a drink. Who is kidding, we could use multiple drinks. Just be careful, be good to one another, and most importantly, be good to yourself.

Finally, in the immortal words of Dean Martin, “Don’t drink and drive. Don’t even putt”.

Happy Holidays from all of us, to all of you.
